Dana Tomečková

Dana Tomečková is a visual artist working across sculpture, installation, and jewellery. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and also studied at the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo.

Her practice explores ways of fostering a more sustainable and attentive relationship with both the environment and different forms of matter. She is fascinated by the unstable, elusive, and ever-changing nature of reality, responding to it through slowness and persistence. Working primarily with granular materials and text, she considers both to be active mediums with their own weight, tension, and potential for progression—from climax to collapse. Her installations create conditions for events that she can only partially anticipate.

Dana will share her residency with her partner, artist Viliam Slaminka.

During our residency, we hope to explore a new rhythm between parenthood and artistic practice, investigating how these two worlds can nourish one another.

Wake up, play, write, draw, sleep.
Wake up, nature, nature, sketch, sleep.
Wake up, sculpt, sleep, sleep, sleep…

I am currently experimenting with breast milk as a malleable sculptural material.
