EKAiR is an artist residency program located in the village of Šumiac in central Slovakia. Named in homage to Viera Gašparíková, known as Eka, this residency is managed by the civic association KOMPONENT, led by Martinka Bobríková and Petra Balíková.
Housed in a traditional wooden cottage where Eka found inspiration, EKAiR offers artists from all disciplines—such as curators, writers, filmmakers, musicians, poets, architects, photographers, educators, and designers—a tranquil environment to recharge and create. The concept, “re-cre-zident,” blends recreation with residency, emphasizing both creative productivity and leisure.
The residency program allows stays from a few days to a month, fostering a collaborative atmosphere and encouraging dialogue with the local community. EKAiR is dedicated to providing a space for creative renewal, honoring Eka’s legacy while nurturing contemporary artistic practices.
