Marie Hladíková
Marie Hladíková is a visual artist based in Prague. She graduated from the Sculpture Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM). Her practice focuses on sculptural objects and site-specific installations created from sustainable and recycled materials.
In recent years, her work has explored the theme of aesthetic diversity and the socially subversive potential of expanding and blurring the boundaries between normative concepts of beauty and ugliness. This research also led to the project FENOMENA – Cosmetics for Monsters, in which natural skincare products serve as a vehicle for embracing identification with monsters and accepting the hidden or repressed aspects of one’s personality.

During the residency, I will immerse myself in the surrounding wild landscape and local folklore, sleeping outdoors and foraging for native mountain herbs that will become the key ingredients of a special “Šumiac” cream.
